    Default Original Brookville Building

OK the building in question is down by the little league fields near the Heritage house. It has a huge dome for part of the roof. I know a business is there now but my kids wanted to know what the building was originally used for when it was built. My FIL thought is was built by Sylvania but he wasn't sure.

The dome must of been built for a reason. Just wanted to know if anyone has any history on the place?

My FIL didn't think that Whitebrook was always at that location. Sylvania sounds better but it still doesn't help me understand why they would need a domed roof? Maybe lightbulbs weren't as good then...LOL

My aunt worked at the sylvania plant, the domed building belonged to Sylvania in the 50s. There is a picture of the building on the internet under industrial buildings in brookville. It was posted by a man named Jerry Haupt I think he works on geneology and has included a picture of the Sylvania Plant Entrance Sign and gate leading to that building along with the parking lot. Dated 1952. There is another picture showing the same building at a later date and it is titled the Park Building. The pictures on the web site are from Post Cards. That is all I know, good luck on finding other information.

I thought I had read an article in a newspaper a while ago that said that it was originally built as a theatre and community place.

They also use to have a nickname for the building but I can't remember what that was.

That's what I was thinking it looked like it was built for. Sometime when I'm down town and have some extra time I might go into the historic center and ask someone. It's really making me wonder now since no one seems to have a definite answer.

And thanks BillStealth for the Sylvania 50's info. Very interesting.

I also was told that before it was used by Sylvania that it was originally built and used as a theater/opera house but didnt go over very well.

That's the nickname...white elephant. What a beautfiul building it is. It's too bad that it wasn't maintained as a community center or something.
